Yoga Therapy, refers to the adaptation and application of yoga techniques and practices to help individuals facing health challenges.
It can be used:
- As a support to alleviate or prevent many physical, chronic, psychological or emotional conditions.
- To compliment both conventional and alternative medicine.
Yoga therapy is taught by yoga teachers with additional training and experience in the therapeutic adaptation and application of yoga.
The Yoga Therapist may include one or more of a range of techniques to help individuals facing health challenges, such as posture work, breathing techniques, relaxation, working with sound, reflection, and/or meditation. A number of sessions are likely to be needed to confirm safe and appropriate practice.
Both Zoë and Gary are certified and highly skilled yoga therapists. We are registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC)
WE ARE EQUIPPED TO WORK WITH:
- Injuries and trauma, back pain, knee injuries, whiplash
- Health conditions like arthritis, multiple sclerosis, crohns disease, chronic fatigue syndrome
- Disorders such as asthma, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Stress, anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, high blood pressure
- Menopausal symptoms
- Pregnancy, post-natal care
Yoga has been a phenomenal benefit for me. For about 7 years I had been unable to run far or frequently, due to back pain caused by a ligament problem. Even when I didn’t run I felt back pain. After several weeks of attending yoga classes my back pain gradually reduced. Over several months I resumed running and have ran several half marathons in the last few years. Yoga has also been helpful for relaxing and reducing stress. I have attended classes with Zoë and with Gary. Both are highly professional, knowledgeable and friendly tutors. Gary is a wonderful teacher. He is very professional, calm and caring. I am 76 and have been attending Gary’s yoga classes for a number of years. I contacted Zoë to start classes when I knew absolutely nothing about yoga. I was looking for some peace of mind in my life. I started with a few individual sessions with Zoë and realised that yoga was indeed offering what I was looking for. It’s far more than ‘stretching’ exercises; the movements combined with controlled breathing are really a preparation for quieting the mind. In quieting the mind I found the break I needed from constant overthinking and anxiety. I still have individual sessions now and again and with Zoë’s help have developed a personal daily practice of yoga. I also go to Zoë’s Monday evening sessions.
